The Shawmont Running Club (SRC) is an unofficial co-ed group of folks who enjoy running and seem to play nice together. Once a week 20-30 runners (usually) show up to cover distances from 5 miles to 20-plus. Our name is taken from Roxborough's mile-long Shawmont Avenue hill run by many of the crew on any given Saturday.
WHERE: We start at Northwestern Ave & Andorra Rd in Philadelphia, PA
(north end of the Forbidden Drive trail in the Valley Green section of Fairmount Park)
WHEN: From the 2nd Saturday in May through the 2nd Saturday in October we start at 7:30 a.m.
From the 3rd Saturday in October through the 1st Saturday in May we start at 8:00 a.m.
FIVE MINUTE RULE: We wait 5 minutes (not 6) for late-arrivals before taking off
ATTENDANCE: Attendance is taken so we know who to pick on in the weekly run report updated on the web site each week
Approximately 25% of the runners each week are women. Ages range from the 20's to the 70's. All women are 29 or less.
Some in the club are competitive in their Age Group; most are mid-packers. Training paces range from 7:00 to 10:00 minute/miles. More than half of the regulars do at least one marathon a year. There are a couple of ultra-marathoners and even a few triathletes.
SRC has no dues and no rules. We're just normal earth-people who enjoy each other's company during long runs.
